The “Silver Tsunami” is in full form and family wealth transfers are occurring at unprecedented rates. Tax professionals are being called upon by long term clients and their families to assist with conservatorship, probate, and trust administration.
This class will focus on trust administration, but has broad application for tax professionals serving aging clients and their families after incapacity or death.
Learning Objectives
1) Understand the legal mechanisms for dealing with the incapacity or death of our clients.
2) Examine various trusts and how/why they are used.
3) Learn the appropriate roles of a number of different professionals in the aging/dying process, and how to work together for our clients’ best advantage.
4) Learn the basics of fiduciary accounting and fiduciary taxation, their similarities and differences, and how fiduciary accounting flows onto the fiduciary tax return.
5) Apply ethical principles to a tax professionals service to aging, incapacitated, or deceased clients and their families.
