CSEA September Meetings Roundup


CSEA conducted another round of productive governance meetings on Saturday and Sunday, September 22-23 at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento. The Society also welcomed Derek Ganter, IRS Area Manager Stakeholder Liaison Field Operations, who was in attendance all weekend. Mr. Ganter stressed the importance of strengthening the IRS/CSEA relationship through developing virtual communication channels, including webinars and meetings customized to CSEA Member needs.
 
Members addressed many important topics during Saturday’s committee meetings.
 
The Executive Committee reviewed the Board Policy Governance and Strategic Plan Implementation reports. There were also updates from the Educating America and Leadership Development Subcommittees.
 
The Education Committee noted the upcoming Super Seminar 2019 Content Subcommittee meeting in Sacramento. The Practice Management Task Force considered the history of this program and how to develop it going forward. The CPE Credit, Speaker Development, and Road Show Task Forces also gave updates.
 
The Legislative Affairs Committee addressed the December 2018 Taxpayers Bill of Rights Hearing. Reports were presented by the Grassroots Advocacy, State Tax Agencies Liaison, and Federal Issues Subcommittees, in addition to an update from the NAEA Government Relations Committee.
 
The Public Information & Awareness Committee shared updates on revising the “Partner with an Enrolled Agent” brochure, tax awareness campaigns for fall and winter, as well as marketing and outreach strategies. New tax practice management articles are in development for the CSEA Resource Library and Member newsletter.
 
The Member Engagement & Promotion Committee discussed how to engage Members who live far from their Chapter meetings and events. The Committee deliberated what works and what doesn’t work for new and prospective Members, and reminded attendees of the importance of recognizing volunteers with the CSEA awards program.
 
The Finance & Budget Committee brought Members up to date on CSEA funds, cash projection, financial forecast and current year budget revisions.
 
On Sunday, the Board of Directors considered several strategic discussions for guiding CSEA’s future. Attendees formed breakout groups to brainstorm about the Society governance year schedule and elections, and changes to the dues structure.
 
NAEA President Jean Nelsen, EA and Executive Vice President Robert Kerr, EA attended the Board meeting.
