Karen Brosi, EA, CFP®
Karen Brosi has been practicing in Palo Alto, California for over twenty-five years. She is a Certified Financial Planner professional and Enrolled to Practice before the Internal Revenue Service. A native Californian, Karen completed her undergraduate education at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, with a major in Mathematics. Karen advises clients in individual tax and family wealth planning, specializing in complex tax strategies, securities and real estate transactions. A frequent lecturer, Karen speaks for various state and local tax professional organizations and nationally for AICPA, NAEA and Western CPE. She was named Outstanding Conference Instructor for 2011-12 and Outstanding Webcast Instructor for 2012-13 by California CPA Education Foundation. Karen has written articles on a variety of tax and financial planning topics, and has been widely quoted in the print media, including Business Week. She and her teaching partner, Sharon Kreider, CPA, present a renowned two-day comprehensive federal and California tax update.


Thomas A. Gorczynski, EA, MST, USTCP
Thomas A. Gorczynski is the Chief Executive Officer of Gorczynski & Associates, LLC in Baltimore, Maryland. His firm specializes in tax preparation for individuals and small businesses, international tax compliance, and tax representation. Mr. Gorczynski is an Enrolled Agent and is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court. He has a Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University and is a Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute. He is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the National Association of Tax Professionals. Mr. Gorczynski is a speaker and technical writer on a wide range of tax topics and has been published in EA Journal.


Claudia Hill, EA, MBA
Claudia Hill is a nationally recognized tax professional and frequent lecturer on taxation of individuals and representation before IRS. She is Editor in Chief of the “Journal of Tax Practice & Procedure” published by Wolters Kluwer, blogs for, and is a frequent presenter for professional associations, Spidell and Wolters Kluwer. Claudia has testified before both the Senate Finance Committee and House Ways & Means Committee on tax issues. She served on the 1987 Commissioner’s Advisory Group to the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service. Ms. Hill is owner and principal of Tax Mam, Inc., an association of Enrolled Agents in Cupertino, CA.


Kevin C. Huston, EA, USTCP, MBA, ChFC, CLU
Kevin C. Huston is President of Blue Ridge Tax Advisors, Inc. in Asheville, North Carolina. Mr. Huston received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Oakland University (Rochester, MI); an MBA in International Business from Georgia State University (Atlanta, GA); and has earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations from The American College (Bryn Mawr, PA). Mr. Huston has been preparing taxes for 30 years and is a graduate Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute of the National Association of Enrolled Agents. He has over 20 years’ experience teaching individual, business, estate and trust tax topics for various organizations across the United States. He has appeared on Tax Talk Today and has had articles published in professional tax journals. In addition, as a USTCP, he has been admitted as a non-attorney to the bar of the United States Tax Court.


Susan Maples, CPA
Susan Maples is the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate for the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) and is responsible to ensure taxpayers’ rights are protected. As the Advocate her responsibilities include the coordination and resolution of taxpayer complaints and problems; and education and outreach efforts to taxpayers and tax practitioners. She has been with the FTB for 20+ years working in both Sacramento and the Southern California field offices. She started as an auditor and has experience with personal income tax and corporate tax law. Susan has worked closely with the practitioner community in her previous role as the Tax Practitioner Liaison to FTB and presented a variety of topics with the Education and Outreach program. She also worked as a Public Affairs spokesperson. Susan earned her Certified Public Accountant license while with the FTB.


Vicki Mulak, EA, CFP®
Vicki Mulak is well-known for her CA tax law and business entity focus. She testifies before the FTB in Sacramento and is involved in state tax legislation and regulation hearings as necessary. She serves on the FTB Advisory Board and the EDD’s Small Business Employer’s Advisory Committee. She speaks on tax topics for CSEA, NAEA, CSTC, and the Society of California Accountants. In 2012, she received NAEA’s “Bill Payne Advocacy Award”. In 2011, Vicki was awarded the “Distinguished Service Award” for enhancement of CSEA’s reputation. In 2006, she received CSEA’s prestigious “Thomas P Hess Award” in recognition of contributions to their educational goals. She has a BS in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State University in New Jersey.


Alan Pinck, EA
Alan Pinck is an Enrolled Agent with over 25 years of tax preparation experience in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has built a practice specializing in individual, small business tax preparation and audit representation. He is currently chair of the NAEA Education Committee. He has been presenting at NTPI events, CSEA Super Seminar as well as a variety of other presentations for tax groups and small business associations. Having represented thousands of tax returns in audit, Alan has obtained tremendous insight of the audit process as well as knowledge on a wide variety of tax issues. His real world approach and stories bring his sessions to life!


Carolyn Richardson, EA, MBA
Carolyn Richardson has been in the tax field since 1984, when she went to work at the IRS as a Revenue Agent. Carolyn taught many classes at the IRS on both tax law changes and new hire training. In 1990, she left the IRS for a position at CCH, where she was a developer on both the service bureau software and on the Prosystem fx tax preparation software for nearly 17 years. After leaving CCH she worked at several Los Angeles-based CPA firms before starting at as an Audit Representative in 2009. Carolyn became the manager of the Education and Research Department in 2011. Since then, she has been developing and presenting course materials for the company and overseeing the research requests.


Chris Rubino, EA
Chris Rubino has a varied financial services background that includes income tax preparation and financial planning advisement. He has been working with since 2008, having first joined the company as a Tax Return Reviewer. He spent time as an Audit Representative before settling into his present role in the Education and Research Department. His current title is Tax Analyst, and in that capacity he develops and presents live courses and webinars, advises fellow tax practitioners, and continues to help the company’s members resolve their tax issues. Most recently, Chris has served as a continuing education instructor for several Southern California chapters of the CSEA.

Mark F. Seid, EA, CPA, USTCP
Mark F. Seid is an enrolled agent, certified public accountant and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court. He was an Internal Revenue Agent with the IRS in San Jose and San Luis Obispo, California. Mark has an active tax practice in Paso Robles, California specializing in small businesses and tax controversy. He has chaired CSEA’s Finance and Budget Committee.


Carol W. Thompson, EA, ATA

Carol W. Thompson has prepared income taxes since 1979 and has been teaching continuing education for over 30 years. Her seminars have been seen and heard by thousands of tax professionals in 22 states. Carol is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), and the National Society of Accountants (NSA). She has been honored with awards including Enrolled Agent of the Year by the California Society of Enrolled Agents, Excellence in Public Awareness Award from the National Association of Enrolled Agents (NAEA), and Excellence in Education by NAEA. Carol has extensive experience in TV, radio, and the print media, including appearances on the IRS Web-TV program, Tax Talk Today, and ABC’s, Good Morning America. She has been interviewed or featured in articles including Newsweek, Accounting Today, Smart Money, Money Magazine, Kiplinger’s and many others. Carol is a Graduate Fellow of the National Tax Practice Institute (NTPI) and served on the faculty for many years.


Steven L. Walker, Attorney
Steven L. Walker is a tax attorney at the Law Offices of Steven L. Walker, A Professional Law Corporation in San Jose, California. His practice focuses on representing individuals and businesses in tax controversies with governmental agencies including tax examinations, investigations, audits and litigation in U.S. Tax Court and federal district courts. He also handles international tax planning and compliance issues. Mr. Walker was the Chair of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California for 2014 – 2015. He also is an adjunct professor at the University Of San Francisco School Of Law in the LLM (Taxation) program, where he teaches Tax Fraud, and has taught Federal Tax Procedure. Mr. Walker is a former IRS Trial Attorney at the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service. He also worked at the California Franchise Tax Board. Prior to opening up his own practice, Mr. Walker was a partner at a major international law firm.
