12/11/17 — CSEA will sponsor the fifth annual Tax Help Day on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Tax Help Day is a free public service event sponsored by the Society and its nineteen affiliated Chapters. This valuable event allows taxpayers to meet with CSEA Member volunteers, ask questions, and get answers to common tax situations. These will include, but not be limited to, the ACA, business deductions, buying a home, retirement planning, and tax reform.

CSEA will also be sharing Tax Help Day details with legislators at Jim Stern Legislative Day on January 8, 2018, thereby calling attention to the EA profession. Last year, several legislative offices partnered with CSEA to promote Tax Help Day in their communities. That’s a win-win situation!

Here’s how Tax Help Day works:

  • Arrange for a venue such as a public library, community center, etc.
  • Set up a small booth or table with your Chapter’s logo.
  • Interact with people concerning taxes.
  • In other words, what you naturally do at every cocktail party you attend!

What’s the outcome of Tax Help Day?

  • It allows you to provide valuable information to the public.
  • It calls attention to the EA designation and profession.
  • It shows off your competence and expertise in the area of taxation.
  • As such, Tax Help Day is a win-win situation for everybody involved!

Tax Help Day is a part of a total public relations effort spearheaded by CSEA. Public relations campaigns like Tax Help Day don’t require direct payment to an advertiser or advertising agency, but focus on education and awareness through events, media relations, social media, and more. In this context, Tax Help Day is one of the most cost-effective means of gaining exposure for yourself, your Chapter, and the Society at large. You can’t lose!

Ideally, at the end of your interaction with a taxpayer, that taxpayer will understand what an EA is, and the level of expertise you and other EAs possess. This is good for you and the Society.
