GENERAL INFORMATION:

digiTAX is a fast, convenient way to earn continuing education right from the comfort of your own home or office or anywhere you have access to a computer! Held in webinar format, participants will enjoy an interactive learning experience via the Web, whereby participants will be able to ask the speaker questions and get answers real time. Participants will receive session materials by e-mail prior to the session and will be able to view the speaker’s PowerPoint slides during the session. CSEA utilizes Microsoft Office Live Meetings to conduct the webinars, and you will receive specific information about how to experience this new way of learning!

WHEN:

digiTAX is regularly offered on the first Wednesday of every month from May through January. Each session with one continuing education credit is offered from 11:00 a.m. to 11:50 a.m., and each session with two continuing education credits is offered from 11:00 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., California time.

COST:

The cost for one credit sessions is only $50.00 for Members and $75 for non-Members, with fees for two credit sessions being slightly higher. There are no refunds for cancellations.

 October 6, 2010: S Corporations and LLC Basis

This digiTAX session is an intermediate practical analysis utilizing contrast and comparison of the critical basis issues affecting the participants of LLCs and S corporations. A thorough understanding of basis in the S corporation and the LLC is essential in initial entity selection as well as in ongoing management of K-1 flow-through items including distributions to participants. Some of the things you will learn are:
  •  Competency in actual computation of basis for LLC and S corporation participants
  • Understanding of the importance of “at-risk” basis in the LLC
  • Recognition of when debt increases basis
  • Accuracy in proper treatment of distributions and K-1 flow-through items
 
The speaker for this session, Vicki Mulak, EA, CFP, is well-known for her California tax law and business entity concentrations earning CSEA’s Thomas P Hess Award in 2006 and appearing on the IRS’ web cast Tax Talk Today in December 2004. 
As the 1996 recipient of the SBA’s “Accountant Advocate of the Year” award, she was honored for supporting small business as owner of American Financial and Tax located in Tustin, CA. 
Other accomplishments include: PPC’s Accounting QuickFinder editor, member of FTB Advisory Board and EDD’s SBEAC, frequent testimony at FTB meetings and consistent involvement in CA legislation, attending hearings for CSEA as necessary. 

She received her BS in Business from Thomas Edison State College in Camden, New Jersey and resides with her husband in Tustin.
